"In my 15 years as a school counselor, I have never seen a more effective social skills program. This one is pure genius.”— Jeannie Brewer, School Counselor, Snyder Elementary, Las Vegas, Nevada
Are you a counselor or therapist? Have you found that no matter how long you use your therapeutic techniques with victims of bullying, they continue to be bullied?
If you work in a school, have you discovered that your anti-bully interventions are doing little to reduce bullying, or even resulting in an intensification of the bullying problem?
Is the “anti-bully” approach philosophically distasteful to you? Do you resent the fact that you spent years studying psychology only to be placed in the role of glorified law enforcement officer–monitoring hallways, instructing kids about “illegal” bullying behaviors, apprehending “bullies,” conducting investigations, judging kids, and meting out punishments? Would you like your school to be an educational institution rather than law enforcement agency?
Do you want an approach to bullying that actually works?
“We at PSI were so impressed with the simplicity and common sense of the Bullies to Buddies™ program that we had to make it our own. We have partnered with Izzy Kalman and Cleveland State University to bring this program to the thousands of students that PSI serves.” - Steve Rosenberg, PhD, Psychologist, President, PSI Solutions, Ohio
Do you know why the popular anti-bullying programs have such little success?
It's because they are not based on psychology. The only thing psychological about these programs is that psychologists produce and promote them. In fact, these programs abandon the basic teachings of psychology. Most anti-bully programs are, in reality, law enforcement programs in which the "victims" are innocent and need to be protected and the "bullies" are criminals who need to be apprehended and punished or reformed. But research consistently shows that punishment is a poor way to get people to treat each other better. There are many other problems with the anti-bully "psychology," and you can read more about these problems here: http://www.bullies2buddies.com/What-is-Wrong-with-the-Anti-Bully-Psychology
The popular anti-bullying programs actually weaken kids. They teach kids they should not expect to solve their problems on their own, but need to be protected by school staff and other students. They teach kids how horribly destructive bullying is, giving them the message that they should get upset when anyone does anything to them that they don't like. By supporting victims against bullies, they reward kids for thinking and acting like victims, so they are more likely to be victimized!
The Bullies to Buddies™ approach is different. It is a purely psychological approach that gives kids the wisdom to deal with bullying on their own. It is consistent with the teachings of all major schools of psychology and psychotherapy, most obviously Rational Emotive Therapy, Cognitive Behavior Therapy, Adlerian Therapy and Transactional Analysis, and with the teachings of all major religions and systems of philosophy. It teaches people how to handle problems on their own, without getting anyone in trouble. Furthermore, it teaches the true practice of the Golden Rule–the universal rule of morality, and of Freedom of Speech, the foundation of democracy. When you use the Bullies to Buddies™ approach, you truly serve as a mental health professional rather than security officer, judge, and punisher.
Here is your chance to become an expert at teaching people not to be victims. Make yourself invaluable to kids and schools.
Bullies to Buddies™ offers two levels of training. The first level will enable you to work with individual victims of bullying. The second level will also equip you to 1) present at school assemblies and 2) instruct school personnel how to dramatically reduce bullying with little time and effort, while enhancing kids’ resilience, independence and emotional maturity.
