Does your school or school district need to implement a comprehensive program for reducing bullying or preventing violence? Our approach is both the simplest and the most effective you can find. Which means it will save you money. And it is the only truly American system, because it is the only one that supports Freedom of Speech, the cornerstone of our democracy.

Most other programs are based on protecting victims by waging war against bullies. We believe this approach is misguided and does more harm than good. Of course, It makes the victims happy when we go after the bullies. However, it weakens victims by teaching them to rely on others rather than themselves to solve their problems. It causes us to punish and alienate the "bullies," who are our own children no less than the victims are. Furthermore, most bullies are really victims, too — it's just that we blame them because they seem to us to be the more aggressive ones in the conflict.

Trying to protect kids from aggression by waging war against bullies is equivalent to trying to protect people from West Nile Virus by spraying the country with pesticides. It is expensive, time consuming, has many unwanted side effects. In fact, it may be causing more more harm than good. If there were a vaccination or antidote for West Nile Virus, no one would even dream of spraying as a solution.

But there is a "vaccination" against teasing and bullying, and it can be provided simply and cheaply to every child. It's called Victim-Proof Your School. When victims become immune to bullying, bullies can't be bullies. Often, the "bullies" turn into "buddies" of the former victims.

This is what Izzy Kalman, creator of Bullies2Buddies.com, can do for your school:

For School Staff

  • Provide school with new policy towards teasing and bullying that is based on wisdom rather than punishment, and leads to natural reduction in aggression
  • Demonstrate how most of the aggression between children in school is unintentionally caused by the way staff handle students' conflicts
  • Teach staff simple "magic responses" that result in a quick and dramatic decrease in aggression and to heightened resilience of students
  • Teach school staff how to respond to parents' complaints that they are not doing enough to punish bullies, and enlist their aid in new policy

For Parents

  • Teach them how to use the new approach to quickly and easily end sibling rivalry between their own children at home
  • Explain new school policy in a way that will earn their support

For Students

  • Teach kids the real cause of relentless teasing and bullying
  • Teach students how to apply the principles of Freedom of Speech to defeat bullies and turn them into friends
  • Instruct kids how to handle teasing, hitting, and rumors
  • Instruct children how stop their siblings from harassing them at home while gaining increased respect from parents
  • Provide emergency counseling to the children suffering most severely from bullying

For counselors

  • Multiply counselors' value value by training them in Izzy Kalman's copyrighted method that "cures" victims of teasing and bulling in a few short sessions
  • Train counselors to present classroom lessons on Bullies to Buddies principles to eliminate aggression (regular teachers who are interested can also be trained to provide these lessons to classes)

Izzy Kalman is available to come to your school or school district to revolutionize the way it handles children's aggression.

Testimonials

"Thank you for working with the Jefferson School District in implementing the Bullies to Buddies program. Your work with our staff, students and parents was revolutionary, informative, proactive and extremely successful. Your strategies turn students into winners almost immediately. You have allowed our classroom teachers to get back to the business of teaching and have eliminated the need for them to be constant conflict managers.

"In the days since you've been gone, I've witnessed students solving their own conflicts, non-violently, and without adult intervention. I've witnessed students feeling more empowered about their own ability to handle "bullies" and to feel as if they are part of the "in" crowd. I see students finally realizing that they had that power all along.

"I have received many positive comments from parents who were involved in your parent trainings. They feel they have less conflict and more calm at home and have achieved this with minimal work at all. Many of the parents now realize how much they created the conflicts and contributed to the sibling rivalry that consumed their homes.

"Personally, I have to comment on how your strategies are working in my own life. I have a much quieter ride home, my three year old and five year old actually have "real" conversations with each other where they decide how to share a toy or resolve a conflict and I don't have to spend my evening yelling at my kids. What parent wouldn't want that for him/herself?

"Our staff, students and parents have been lucky to have you to work with us. Any school community that is actually ready to address the real issue in the bully problem needs to see your work!! It does not mean that staffs, students and parents will immediately believe that the problem can be solved so simply, but it can. Your approach requires a paradigm shift in the thinking of modern mankind. But, we really must admit that what we've been doing for the last ten years continues to fail us!!! This approach works. For the sake of our students, I hope all educators, parents, and students will give it a try. Thank you." – Jane Steinkamp, Principal, The Jefferson School Tracy, CA Dec. 10, 2001

"Finally, a program that works near miracles in helping victims to deal with bullies. After more than two years of implementing Izzy’s principles, the students at William Snyder Elementary School smile at one another with confidence. Our school climate is pleasant and conducive to learning. Discipline referrals for bullying behaviors have decreased significantly. Teachers can now teach more because the kids are handling their own issues. And (drum roll here)...our test scores are going UP. In a school where the population is 63% Hispanic, our school reached every testing goal. In my 15 years as a school counselor, I have never seen a more effective social skills program. This one is pure genius.” - Jeannie Brewer, School Counselor, Snyder Elementary, Las Vegas, Nevada

***

“We at PSI were so impressed with the simplicity and common sense of the Bullies to Buddies™ program that we had to make it our own. We have partnered with Izzy Kalman and Cleveland State University to bring this program to the thousands of students that PSI serves.” - Steve Rosenberg, PhD, Psychologist, President, PSI Solutions, Ohio

***

“Of all the approaches to the problem of bullying, Izzy Kalman's approach stands out. It has worked wonders for my patients and friends alike.” - Doris M. Greenberg, MD, Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrician, Savannah, Georgia

***

"This program has removed teachers from the middle of students' problems, no longer forcing them to choose who is right or wrong, and has helped students to regain control of situations and in turn their self esteem." - Colleen Pittman, M.Ed, Coordinator/Counselor, St. Raphael School, Louisville, Kentucky

***

“Bullies to Buddies™ is the most effective anti-bullying program I have encountered in my 14 years as a school counselor. It gives victims the tools and strategies necessary to handle difficult situations, thus increasing their self esteem. Parents are thrilled and some of them are practicing the skills with their children. The teachers and aides feel relieved that they no long need to handle every tiny little tattle or situation. This saves an enormous amount of time in the classroom and children find that they have more time to play. The teachers not only used the strategies of Bullies to Buddies™ in their classroom but also with their husbands, children and exes.” - Vickie Kolb, School Counselor, Brandon Valley School District Brandon, South Dakota

***

“I have conducted lessons from Bullies to Buddies™ throughout my school. The children thoroughly enjoy the lessons, really listen and participate, and use the skills daily. They get a kick out of "teasing" me, the counselor, as we do the role-plays; yet, they are learning as they have fun. They have felt empowered and I have personally seen significant changes in their self-esteem and social skills. I recommend this program for any educator working with children elementary age and up.” Julie Doody, Counselor, Elise Wolff Elementary School

***

“I have seen every other program designed to stop this problem, but Izzy’s is the only one that works!” - Paul Reddick, Chairman, American Sportsmanship Association

***

“A child was sent to me who had been teased by a whole group of children as a result of an incident at recess. I took him through the steps that I learned from Bullies to Buddies and within 15 minutes this child was able to go back to class and continue learning. The teacher was amazed at the transformation. I was able to teach the whole class the technique, which resulted in more time on task and more learning. The students got along better and the learning environment became more pleasant and enjoyable for everyone. Izzy is a master of making this learning fun and easy to teach.” - Malda Burns Rockdale Elementary School Counselor, Rockdale,Texas

***

“Students are increasing their patience, compassion, and kindness towards other through applying your strategies. Our school is a better place because of Izzy's game! Thank you.” Mark Lane, LCSW-R School Social Worker, Guilderland Elementary School

Warning! This not your typical anti-bully program. Be ready to have everything you believed about bullying turned on it’s head!

If you know about the popular anti-bully programs, they require increased effort and constant vigilance on the part of everyone: staff, students and parents. Furthermore, they turn the school from an educational institution into a correctional facility, in which the staff has to monitor all areas of the campus and need to conduct investigations, interrogations and judgments in every act of unpleasantness between kids. And if you know the research, you should be aware that the results of these programs are nothing to rave about. Worst of all, if you are a victim of bullying and you need to rely on the school to solve your problem with bullies for you, you are likely to stay a victim of bullying for a very long time.

In this workshop, you will discover the simple reasons why bullying cannot be reduced by trying to get rid of bullies. The only reliable way is by teaching people how not to be victims. The rules are remarkably simple, and we guarantee you that the techniques you will learn here are the quickest and most effective you will find anywhere.

Furthermore, you will learn how to teach educators a simple approach to reducing bullying that takes almost no time and effort and allows them to go back to the job of being teachers rather than anti-bully policemen!

Learn Izzy Kalman's simple, effective methods for reducing aggression between children while enhancing their independence, resilience, and emotional maturity.

Who should attend

All Mental Health Professionals, educators, and parents.

What you will learn

In response to the rash of school shootings, epitomized by the massacre at Columbine, schools throughout the country are inplementing anti-bullying programs. These expensive, time-consuming programs require intesified effort and vigilance on the part of teachers, students and parents and ironically, often lead to an increase in bullying! To make mattes worse, the anti-bullying programs unwittingly weaken kids by teaching them to think and act like victims.

If you work with schools or children, this may be the most important seminar you ever encounter. It will challenge your basic assumptions about children's aggression and even about yourself! The practical tools you will acquire will multiply your value to the schools and children you serve. You will learn how to turn kids from losers into winners in as little as one week. (The same principles also work with adult bullying!)

Why are the popular anti-bullying initiatives so ineffective? Because they violate the Golden Rule, The First Amendment and the teachings of all major religions as well as secular ethical systems. While modern social scientists are trying to figure out how to combat the problems of teasing and bullying, they are rejecting the solutions that have been with us since civilization began. Izzy Kalman has developed simple, powerful techniques that make the wisdom of the ages come alive - techniques that teach victims how to solve their problems without anyone else's help and without getting anyone in trouble - while restoring their natural sense of humor. Whether your hero is Skinner, Freud, Albert Ellis, the Buddha, Jesus, Moses or Mohammed, you should love this seminar.

Anger Control Made Easy

Anger Control Made Easy Workshop Schedule

Anger is at the root of almost all relationship problems. Despite this, most systems of therapy and counseling do not address anger directly. They consider anger a byproduct of problems, with the expectation that when the problem is solved, the anger will also disappear. The treatment process is usually a long one, and it can takes months or years of sessions with no certainty that the problem will actually be resolved.

In this entertaining workshop, you will learn a simple approach to helping your clients–and yourself! After all, most counselors and therapists have the same kinds of relationship problems that their clients have. It’s because we have never learned that to solve our problems, we first have to stop getting angry. If you become competent with this approach, you will find yourself helping clients more quickly and effectively than you may have thought possible. And your own life may improve, too!

Learn Izzy Kalman's quick, fun method of teaching anger control to clients of all ages.

Target Audience

All Mental Health Professionals and anyone wanting to improve their relationships quickly and easily.

A comprehensive one-day seminar for counselors, social workers, educators, and other mental health professionals.

The single most destructive element in life is anger. Anger destroys relationships between husbands and wives, parents and children, brothers and sisters, kids in school, and adults in the workplace. Prolonged anger literally poisons our bodies. It leads to depression and violence. Virtually everyone needing psychological or psychiatric help is intensely angry with one or more people in their lives. Prisons are full of individuals who could not control their anger.

The single most valuable service therapists can provide their clients is to teach them anger control. Unfortunately, getting people to stop being angry is easier said than done. After months and years of therapy, many clients continue to be angry. The single most effective and fun way ever devised for teaching anger control is Izzy Kalman's "game." Rather than having people "control" their anger by such devices as counting to ten or deep breathing, this role-playing technique teaches people how not to get angry in the first place. It does this by taking advantage of the individual's overriding biological need to win. When people discover that anger makes them lose, and that there is an effortless way to win, they don't want to be angry any more. Izzy's "game" accomplishes in one session what is often missed in months and years of regular talking therapy. Through extensive use of role-playing, participants in this comprehensive seminar will learn to see anger in a whole new light. It will also give them a tool that can literally multiply their value and effectiveness as therapists.

What You Will Learn

  • Overview of anger
  • Demonstration of the "game"
  • Tutorial on the "game"
  • Lessons learned through the "game"
  • Six simple rules for winning without anger
  • Applications of the "game" to treat problems
  • Why Mother Nature designed us to get angry
  • How civilization turned anger from the first step to winning into the first step to losing
  • How an "optical illusion" creates the very problems we think we are solving
  • How using the "game" could make you a better therapist than you ever thought possible
  • Why anger is at the root of almost all life problems
  • How to simultaneously teach clients why other people drive them crazy and how to stop them
  • How to apply this "game" to every type of social/emotional problem
  • A set of simple rules for winning in all social interactions and turning enemies into friends

How to Stop Your Children from Driving You Crazy

Virtually no one who begins a family is psychologically prepared for the difficulty in store for them. Children devise endless ways to drive their parents crazy. No one loves children and does as much for them as their parents. Yet children treat their parents worse than they treat anyone else. And the more we do for them, the less they appreciate it. Instead of thanking us for our devotion and sacrifice, they only get mad when we don't give them what they want. Most parents look forward to going to work as a vacation from the kids.

Fortunately, Izzy Kalman has an approach to parenting that makes it more simple and satisfying. He reveals the true, secret reason kids wage war on their parents and shows how easy it to make the war end. Almost all typical discipline and behavior problems can be solved with little effort. Parents learn how to turn a lose/lose situation into a win/win. As a result, parents get more respect and better behavior from their children than ever before. And their children are happier, too, when their parents aren't always yelling at them and bossing them around.

Lectures (one hour)

The Simple Solution to Sibling Rivalry

The single most common and annoying family problem is sibling rivalry. The Biblical story of murder between the world's first siblings, Cain and Abel, indicates that the problem is as old as Civilization. It still remains one of the most stubborn of all problems, baffling even most therapists.

This eye-opening workshop will reveal the simple optical illusion that fools most people–including therapists!–and results in an endless state of war between siblings. Parents are racking their brains out trying to figure out how to get their kids to stop fighting but can’t see how their efforts are actually make the kids fight even harder! You will learn the simple rules for dramatically reducing sibling rivalry, and you can use them to help yourself or your clients.

Fighting between brothers and sisters is the single most common family problem in the world. The Biblical story of murder between the world's first siblings, Cain and Abel, indicates that the problem is as old as Civilization. It still remains one of the most stubborn of all problems, baffling even most therapists. Izzy Kalman reveals the optical illusion that fools most people and results in the almost universal state of war between siblings.

Izzy can teach parents how to quickly end the fighting with almost no effort. He can equip mental health professionals to understand and solve the problem with their clients. And he can even teach an auditorium full of children how to get their brothers and sisters to stop fighting with them at home.

From Soulmates to Cellmates:Why good marriages go bad and how to save them

Some couples would have been better off never having gotten married in the first place. They get married when they are too young to understand what they are doing, or they get married for the wrong reasons, or they discover too late that their spouse has a character defect that makes it impossible for them to get along with anyone.

But most marriages start out well. The couple are both emotionally healthy and may feel like soulmates. Then they get married, and before they know it, they feel like cellmates! What destroys a good marriage?

Marital problems are often said to be the most difficult kind of problem to solve. Many couples go to marriage therapists and end up getting divorced. You will learn in this entertaining, eye-opening workshop that the reason for most marital problems is remarkably simple. It is literally under our noses but we can’t see it! If you had a good marriage that went bad, or you do counseling or therapy with couples, you will learn a simple but powerful approach that can save marriages, sometimes in the very first week.

When a couple gets married, they expect to live happily ever after. If the bride and groom each bothered to look at their own parents, they'd realize they have no good reason to entertain such an expectation. Chances are that if their parents didn't get divorced, they are probably pretty miserable together. The divorce rate isn't 50% for nothing.

Even when a new couple are sure they are soulmates, it is usually only a matter of time before they feel like cellmates. They fight all the time and treat each other worse than they treat anyone else.

Let Izzy come to the rescue. He will teach your adult audience the same principles he used to save his own marriage. He derived these principles from his work in curing victims of teasing and bullying, and they can be applied amazingly well to marriages, too. To turn cellmates back into soulmates, let Izzy be your instructor.
